The Brazilian centre-back was replaced as a precautionary measure.
Gabriel Magalhaes was taken off the pitch with fifteen minutes left, appearing heartbroken as he buried his head in his hands in disgust, as the Gunners were already on course to win by a landslide.
Arsenal supporters were terrified by Gabriel Magalhaes’ reaction, but Arteta reassured them that his substitution from the game was a precautionary measure rather than an order.
Arteta gives a positive update on Gabriel substitution

Even if Gabriel is probably going to be well in the long run, Arsenal must anxiously wait to see if he will be well enough to play in Saturday’s Premier League match against West Ham United.
“I think he’s going to be OK, Arteta explained. I think it was a kick, in the first half, and it was a bit uncomfortable. He could carry on but we decided not to take any risks because he’s played a lot of games. He’s coming back from a long-term injury and we need to look after him.”
After a hamstring injury in April ended his 2024–25 season, the Brazilian has not missed a minute of Premier League action this season. However, he might have to break that run this weekend.
However, Arsenal have a strong defence. On Wednesday, Cristhian Mosquera took Gabriel Magalhaes’ place. Italy international Riccardo Calafiori, who was mostly deployed on the left during his time in England, is equally at ease in a centre position.
Piero Hincapié, a summer acquisition, is still out due to a groin injury. Even though he shouldn’t be out much longer, the player is expected to be back mid-October.
Has Gabriel Magalhaes suffered any injury?
No, he hasn’t. The sub was a precaution as the centre-back didn’t look fit.
Will he be fit for Arsenal’s next game?
Arteta will provide his fitness update ahead of the game.
