Premier League 2024-25: Each gameweek has featured 4 hamstring injury

With the congested football calendar, players have picked up injuries more often.
As of game week 29, 118 Premier League players had been reported to have suffered hamstring injuries that prevented them from playing in at least one game this season, according to Premier Injuries.
Accordingly, four hamstring injuries had been reported on average for each game week this season. Concerns have been raised over the increasing matches in the schedule and the rise in hamstring injuries in recent seasons.
The Premier League’s five most recent seasons with hamstring injuries are listed below:
- 2019-20 – 136 hamstring injuries recorded
- 2020-21 – 122 hamstring injuries recorded
- 2021-22 – 129 hamstring injuries recorded
- 2022-23 – 138 hamstring injuries recorded
- 2023-24 – 163 hamstring injuries recorded
- 2024-25 – 118 hamstring injuries recorded
How the congested football calendar has affected players’ fitness?
For as many years as Premier League players have suffered frequent injuries, we have heard that elite football players are being overworked.
Premier Injuries’ exclusive research showed that due to a more intensive style of play and a glut of fixtures, the number of significant hamstring injuries has skyrocketed.
Hamstring injuries happen when the muscles are overworked or overstretched, which is frequently the result of exhaustion and fast-paced running.
Players in the Premier League sustained 163 hamstring injuries last season, which is an almost 25% increase from the average of 131.25 during the preceding four seasons.
With nearly a third of the campaign remaining, Premier League clubs have already reported over 100 hamstring injuries so far, prior to the most current round of midweek games.
Hamstring strains account for about 25% of all injuries this season. The severity of those injuries is what’s most worrisome. 85 out of 163 players missed more than 30 days of action last season, which is a startling 64% increase from the previous four-season average of 52.
However, if it isn’t looked into, then it will continue to happen. Players will suffer injuries. Either they should revamp the football calendar or bring in new rules that could provide more rest time to players.
