Arsenal’s win over Real Madrid guaranteed England a fifth UCL spot.
Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Real Madrid on Tuesday night has guaranteed Premier League at least five spots in the Champions League next season.
Declan Rice gave Mikel Arteta’s team total control of the quarterfinal match at the Emirates with two incredible free kicks, particularly the first of his career.
With 75 minutes remaining, Mikel Merino then scored the third goal, guaranteeing a memorable evening for the Gunners and the Premier League overall.
One more win in any of these top European competitions would have handed England the fifth spot with four more clubs are in action this week.
Countries are given two more spots according to their UEFA coefficient position. Borussia Dortmund and Bologna were the lucky winners after Germany and Italy defeated England, France, and Spain in the previous season.
Nonetheless, English teams have dominated this season, and more victories might be on the horizon. In addition to Liverpool and Arsenal are expected to place in the top four, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester City, and Aston Villa are all set to fight for a Champions League spot.
Amazingly, England might have up to seven teams in the Champions League the next season, albeit this scenario would involve a number of variations.
Manchester United or Tottenham, both quarterfinalists, would need to win the Europa League trophy, while Aston Villa would need to win the competition this season but miss out on qualifying through the Premier League.
This is because the champions of the Champions League and Europa League are assured a place at the top table for the upcoming campaign.
It will be interesting to see if seven teams from the Premier League secure their place in the competition next season. However, many top sides in the league will bet on them to fight for that fifth spot before the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Man City who are sixth in the league will hope to finish in top four as they are currently sixth and a point behind Newcastle and Chelsea.
