PSG issue Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue injury update & return timeline

The duo suffered injuries during international games.

Paris St. Germain forward Ousmane Dembele would be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a hamstring ailment. The European champions announced that winger Desire Doue would be sidelined for approximately four weeks owing to a calf issue.

They were hurt on Friday when France defeated Ukraine 2-0 in the World Cup qualifying match in Poland. Dembele took Doue’s place at halftime, but the 28-year-old hobbled off in the 81st minute.

One of the favourites to take home this year’s Ballon d’Or, Dembele played a key role in PSG’s treble-winning campaign the previous year, which included their first Champions League victory, as well as victories in the Ligue 1, French Cup, and French Super Cup.

PSG provide an injury update on Dembele and Doue

“Ousmane Dembele has suffered a serious injury to his right hamstring. He is expected to be unavailable for around six weeks,” PSG said in a statement on Saturday.

“Also picking up an injury during the encounter, Desire Doue suffered a strain in his right calf and will be out for around four weeks.”

Last season, he made 53 appearances for PSG in all competitions, scoring 35 goals and dishing out 16 assists. In their World Cup qualifying round, France will host Iceland on Tuesday in Group D.

September fixtures for the French club

On September 14, PSG will face Lens in Ligue 1, and three days later, they will begin their Champions League championship defense against Atalanta.

In addition, they have Ligue 1 games against Olympique de Marseille and Auxerre in September, and later their much-awaited Champions League matchup with Dembele’s old team, Barcelona, on October 1.
