PSG planning to offer Luis Enrique new contract
The Spanish international has just one year left on his current deal.
A report from Fabrizio Romano claims that talks about Luis Enrique’s contract renewal with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have begun. The Spanish manager has made a good impression while in the city. The team wants to include him heavily in their long-term plan. Luis Enrique’s current contract is scheduled to end in 2025.
The manager was heavily involved in the club’s summer transfer activity. According to L’Équipe, he was a crucial factor in PSG’s decision to withdraw from the competition for Victor Osimhen (25) as the transfer window was closing, even after Gonçalo Ramos (23) had a serious injury.
The manager felt Osimhen would not be able to adjust to his strategy. The coach emphasises his front line’s flexibility and willingness to switch positions—as seen by his usage of Marco Asensio as a false nine.
Although PSG have had a string of unimpressive managers in recent years, Enrique seems like a pretty wise addition. It’s obvious that other elite teams would be very interested in signing him should he decide to leave his current position at the conclusion of his contract.
It would be fascinating to watch how this story plays out. Although one would think PSG have the financial means to offer Enrique a new deal that helps keep him in the French capital for a little longer.
Club executives will be especially eager for Enrique to succeed. Under him, PSG reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League and won Ligue 1 last season.
Success however won’t be simple this time around following the shock of losing star player Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer. But with Enrique’s excellent coaching, the club appear to be in fine form despite the loss of such a highly skilled player up front.
They have continued to remain a dominant side in the league. However, Luis Enrique’s main aim will be to end the club’s long-standing drought for the UEFA Champions League trophy. PSG came close to reaching the final last season but were eliminated by Borussia Dortmund.
PSG have done some serious business this time. The former Barcelona manager hopes to turn them into a European trophy contender this season.
