The French star has suffered a big setback since his move to Los Blancos.

After signing for Real Madrid on a free move from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Kylian Mbappé has had a difficult start to life with his new club. A commentator speculates that PSG may be taking some pride in watching the French star struggle, given the excitement surrounding his arrival.

In 16 games thus far, Mbappé has eight goals and two assists, but he hasn’t yet established himself as the main man for his side. Real Madrid’s 4-0 loss to Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 26 made his first El Clásico match difficult. They suffered still another defeat a few days later, falling to AC Milan 3-1 in the UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid defeated CA Osasuna 4-0 to bounce back ahead of the FIFA international break. Jude Bellingham added a goal, and Vinicius Junior dominated with a hat trick, but Mbappé found it difficult to make an impact on the game.

Luis Fernández on Kylian Mbappe’s form

In an interview with Spanish media outlet El Chiringuito, former PSG manager and player Luis Fernández stated that the French powerhouses aren’t displeased with the way their all-time top goal scorer is playing for Real Madrid.

“For now, it’s difficult for him,” Fernández said (h/t Le10Sport). “One might have thought that with the quality he has, leaving PSG would allow him to go to Madrid with confidence, but at the moment, he doesn’t have it in him. He isn’t performing well enough to be truly effective. In France, he is being criticized.”

“Right now, he isn’t succeeding; he’s even failing. He’ll need to find the motivation to overcome all of this. Currently, at PSG, they’re happy that Mbappé isn’t succeeding. When he left, his relationship with the club wasn’t good anymore. I know him; he speaks Spanish very well, and I know he has a strong mentality to establish himself in La Liga.”

Coming to a new league is certainly a big chance in a player’s career but Mbappe is one of the most talented players who shouldn’t take much time to show his attributes. However, another reason for his poor showing has been he is currently playing as a centre-forward while he is more of a winger who can make a big influence from there and score goals.
