PSG target Ademola Lookman wants to leave Atalanta this summer: Reports
The striker helped Serie A club triumph in Europa League last season.
Rumours about Ademola Lookman, the Europa League final hero, potentially joining Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) surfaced on Sunday. This comes after the player was left out of Atalanta’s squad for their upcoming Serie A opener against Lecce.
In May, Nigerian striker Lookman made history for Atalanta by defeating German champions Bayer Leverkusen with a spectacular hat-trick. This victory gave the traditional regional club their first European trophy and their first significant prize since 1963.
The 26-year-old, nevertheless, was left out of the squad that was revealed on Sunday for Atalanta’s journey towards the South. Gian Piero Gasperini’s team will kick off their league season on Monday night.
Lookman’s agent has informed Atalanta of PSG‘s interest during the club’s exciting summer transfer season, according to numerous reports in the Italian media.
Another Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners is pushing for a transfer to Juventus. On the other hand, Serbian midfielder Lazar Samardzic landed in Bergamo on Sunday. The player will have his medical test ahead of a 20 million euro ($22 million) switch to Atalanta from Udinese.
Koopmeiners is also left off of the 23-man roster for the Lecce game. Atalanta have not yet agreed to conditions with Juventus, who are rebuilding their team under new manager Thiago Motta.
Gianluca Scamacca, the centre forward for Atalanta, suffered a knee injury earlier this month, forcing the team to recruit Mateo Retegui from Genoa, his Italy teammate.
Lookman, a 23-time Nigerian capped player, netted three goals during his nation’s march to the African Cup of Nations championship in January-February.
Lookman’s departure is now a real possibility. Atalanta have begun searching for a possible successor. They are interested in Federico Chiesa but it remains to be seen.
