RB Leipzig risk losing several stars if they fail to secure Champions League spot: Report

The club are one point behind the fourth-placed side in the Bundesliga.

After dropping to sixth place over the weekend, RB Leipzig may have to make significant changes this summer if they are unable to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

They could be at the risk of losing many star players in the summer if one of the top objectives isn’t fulfilled, which is to secure a place in the Champions League

Leipzig have been able to recruit players like Xavi Simons and Loïs Openda to the team because of regular Champions League football. However, if that no longer holds true, players could probably be sold.

However, their hopes of securing the top four aren’t completely at risk as they are only a point behind fourth-place SC Freiburg. Meanwhile, they actually are 20 points adrift of first-place Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

If they don’t finish in the top four, Castello Lukeba, Benjamin Seško, and new permanent acquisition Xavi Simons could all be transferred in the summer. Many top European clubs are already keeping tabs on their players. Arsenal have shown interest in Seško, and Liverpool have also been linked to Xavi.

According to Sport Bild, Lukeba intends to exercise his €90 million release clause and will attempt to leave the team in the summer, with Real Madrid showing interest.

If they don’t make it to the Champions League in May, Openda and David Raum will also try to make moves in the summer and will hope to sign with a side that is playing in the Champions League.

Leipzig can still try and maximize the profit from the players they are planning on selling because none of these players are subject to release clauses besides Lukeba, who will only be sold if any team manage to meet his clause.

It’s not just the players who might depart. Given Sebastian Hoeneß’s strong connection to the team, head coach Marco Rose may be fired. But it would be too soon to lose hope as they still have the remainder of the season and can finish well inside the top four.
