Real Betis' Isco on Antony: We have to crowdfund so he can stay at least another year

The Brazilian has been shining at the Spanish club.

Isco, a midfielder, suggests that Real Betis could use crowdsourcing to prolong the loan of winger Antony from Manchester United.

Since signing for Betis on loan in January, which will last until the end of the season, Brazil winger Antony has contributed four goals and four assists in 12 games across all competitions.

According to United sources, Antony’s weekly salary of almost £100,000 is 84% paid by Betis.

“We have to crowdfund so he can stay at least another year,” Isco told DAZN.

“We’ve noticed a change since he arrived; he brings us a lot. I’m happy to have Antony here. He’s surprised us all with his humility and desire to help.”

With Sunday’s derby victory against Sevilla, Betis have won six straight LaLiga games and have only lost two since Antony’s arrival.

With the top four teams advancing to the Champions League, Betis are currently ranked sixth in the league. They are hoping to secure the top four spot.

In 2022, Man Utd paid £81 million to sign Antony from Ajax, making him their second-most expensive acquisition after Paul Pogba.

Prior to his loan departure to the Spanish team, Antony was having a terrible time at United, where he had only managed one goal in 14 games this season and became second-fiddle in the squad.

Since he arrived at Old Trafford in 2023, he has failed to ignite the world with his performance, and his exorbitant price tag has been a persistent source of criticism.

He only scored one goal in the Premier League since April 2023, after scoring 12 goals in 96 games for United. Before joining Betis, he appeared in just 14 of their 33 appearances across all competitions this season.

Betis are eager to keep Antony in Spain beyond the end of the current campaign, and he is now implying that he might achieve the heights that were originally predicted of him when he made his debut at Ajax.
