Real Madrid contract talks with Vinicius Jr come to standstill: Report

The Brazilian player’s contract talks with Madrid have collapsed.

According to ESPN Brazil, Vinicius Jr. and Real Madrid’s contract negotiations have abruptly collapsed. Previously believed to be moving along nicely, negotiations for a contract extension have suddenly come to a total standstill.

The main cause has been the wages of the player. Vinicius Jr is currently asking for €20M and €10m in bonuses, but Madrid are only prepared to offer the player €20M after he was previously earning €17M. This has resulted in his agent turning down the offer as they feel it is unfair, with the club only willing to increase €3M.

Discussions are thus put on hold. Before committing to anything long-term, Vinicius want to wait and see how the season plays out under Xabi Alonso.

This sudden stop in contract casts serious questions on the star’s future with Real, who had intended to swiftly lock down their attacking gem.

Vinicus’ agent turned down Madrid’s contract offer

The players’ representatives and decision-makers are Tassilo Soares and Fred Pena. They flatly turned down Real Madrid’s offer because they believe it is too low to commit to three more years with the team.

Given that the player has been out of form for a while, it is unclear if Real Madrid will give in and placate the Brazilian’s agents or stick to their guns.

The upcoming campaign will be crucial for Vinicius to demonstrate that he is still among the finest in the world in his position and possibly push his salary demands through after a dismal run the previous season and an unsatisfactory performance in the preseason.
