Winless Los Blancos look to register their first pre-season victory against the Blues

The Santiago Bernabeu was electrified with excitement as news broke of Kylian Mbappe finally making his long-anticipated move to Real Madrid after a seven-year transfer saga. However, this jubilation was short-lived as Los Blancos suffered defeats in their first two friendlies against AC Milan and arch-rivals FC Barcelona. Though the promising attacking trio of Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., and Mbappe are yet to make their season debut, Real Madrid have managed to score only a solitary goal in their two pre-season matches.

Chelsea, on the other hand, saw their UEFA Europa League aspirations dashed when Manchester United defeated their arch-rivals Manchester City to clinch the FA Cup. The Enzo Maresca era at Stamford Bridge did not start on a high note, with the Blues winning just one of their last four fixtures. Following a 2-2 draw against Wrexham, Chelsea were overpowered by Celtic. They managed to rebound with a commanding 3-0 victory over Club America, but their joy was once again short-lived as Manchester City triumphed over them in their last outing.

Both teams are desperate for a win in the upcoming match. Expect an action-packed and thrilling encounter as the London-based outfit takes on the reigning European champions, Real Madrid.

Players to watch:

Antonio Rudiger (Real Madrid)

Antonio Rudiger, will be fervently aiming to secure the first clean sheet of the pre-season campaign for Los Blancos. Standing at an imposing 6 feet 3 inches, the German centre-back is not only a formidable defensive presence but also a significant threat during set pieces. Rudiger will encounter familiar faces in the form of Chelsea, a club where he spent nearly half a decade, making over a century of appearances for the London-based outfit.

Mykhailo Mudryk (Chelsea)

Ukrainian international Mykhailo Mudryk will be disheartened after his national team failed to progress to the knockout stages of Euro 2024, despite being level on points with group leaders Romania. After honing his skills at Shakhtar Donetsk, the 23-year-old transitioned to the pinnacle of English football by signing with Chelsea in 2023. Mudryk has since made 46 appearances for the Blues, finding the back of the net five times.
