Real reason why Kylian Mbappe missed opening Club World Cup matches for Real Madrid

Mbappe missed three of the starting games of the Club World Cup.

Kylian Mbappe had to miss the first three games of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after suffering stomach pain. The French star was also hospitalised for a day due to an “acute case of gastroenteritis.”

The pain was so severe that it kept Mbappe from leaving his room. The reason behind the illness was confirmed after L’Equipe revealed that former Paris Saint-Germain player suffered food poisoning shortly before leaving for the USA.

The France international player’s pain persisted. It was further exacerbated after he suffered from dehydration. Upon reaching the USA, Mbappe’s health worsened. He felt nauseous and had stomach pain.

This led to the player being admitted to the hospital, where he was put on a drip. Medical scans revealed that he had food poisoning as a result of bacteria present in the chicken that Mbappe had eaten.

The food poisoning had a lot of implications on Mbappe’s health. He lost a total of six kilograms and couldn’t play in Real Madrid’s CWC group stage matches. After getting a green light from the club’s medical team, the forward finally made his first Club World Cup 2025 appearance, coming off the bench in a 1-0 win over Juventus.

He then opened his Club World Cup 2025 goal-scoring account with an impressive overhead kick against Borussia Dortmund. It helped lead his side to the semi-final of the event. The last season’s Golden Boot winner quickly showed his knack for finding the back of the net in that match.

Now the real reason behind his stomach pain has been confirmed. Currently, the forward is preparing to face his former team, PSG, in the semi-final of the competition tonight at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.. Mbappe will now be fully fit to start the game, hoping to make an imprint against his ex-team.
