Robert Lewandowski extends his contract with Barcelona for another year: Report

The Polish striker is in brilliant form this season for the Catalan club.

After reaching a significant milestone for Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski reportedly activated a contract renewal.

Despite rumours of the Polish striker linked with an exit during the summer after producing a poor performance last season, Barcelona continued with Lewandowski. For this season, the striker has been in the best form of his life.

Sport claims that when Lewandowski signed for Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022, a clause was added to the contract that allowed the Catalan team to terminate the striker’s deal at the end of the 2024–25 campaign if he did not feature in at least 55 per cent of the games.

Since joining the club the former Bayern Munich striker has won LaLiga and is hoping to add more silverware this season as the club fight on all fronts.

Despite being past his prime Lewandowski has continued to produce good goalscoring numbers and remains the only reliable centre-forward for Barcelona.

However, after his team’s 2-0 victory at Las Palmas on Saturday, the 36-year-old’s contract was extended until 2026. He is also a constant name in Hansi Flick’s squad. He has been impactful in this campaign for the Catalan club.

The Pole has apparently been thinking about completing his storied career at Barcelona, thus this extension has been in the works for weeks. The veteran may not be ending his career anytime soon though as he is still producing at the highest level.

Lewandowski has 91 goals in 130 games since joining the Blaugrana. The former Borussia Dortmund player is only one goal short of his 2022–23 goal total of 33, putting him on track to post his highest goalscoring season for Barcelona to date.

When Barcelona host Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Tuesday, Lewandowski will look to do just that.
