Poland striker Robert Lewandowski revealed he suffered muscle discomfort during their game against Scotland. The striker was asked to be replaced in the 72nd minute, which happened shortly after Scotland levelled the game 2-2.

Despite his absence, Poland managed to find the winner. They won the game 3-2 after the 97th goal from Nicola Zalewski through a penalty.

The Barcelona striker also had a goal to his name. He had scored through the spot kick in the 44th minute. However, the 36-year-old couldn’t continue till the later stages due to muscle discomfort.

Lewandowski decided to play safe. He asked to be replaced to avoid exacerbating the pain and was taken off. He later revealed why he had to be removed from the game. The Barca star said: “I felt some discomfort and then some pain. I realized that if I took a risk today, it could be much worse tomorrow. For the sake of the team and my own health, I decided to leave the field,”

Lewandowski has started the new season on a positive note. He already has four LaLiga goals as Barcelona commenced on a strong way. The Blaugrana lead the table with 12 points under Hansi Flick.

The Polish striker will be crucial this season. The forward is aware of the amount of games he might be playing. Even the Champions League have also extended the number of matches for the 2024-25 season.

This is why the player decided to avoid making things worse for himself in the game. It was a wise decision to be substituted. This move surely will help the club. Having the experienced player fit will be a boon for Barcelona as once again they are enduring an injury-plagued season.

Fermin Lopez and Marc Bernal have suffered injuries, while Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo continue to recover. But good news for the club is Ansu Fati is expecting to return after the end of the international break.

Meanwhile, it’s unlikely that Lewandowski will be participating in the next UEFA Nations League game for Poland when they face Croatia on Sunday.
