This year, Ronaldo will be participating in his sixth World Cup.

According to Portugal national team manager Roberto Martinez, Cristiano Ronaldo is not showing any signs of slowing down and may play “on and off” if he so chooses.

The 41-year-old scored his 962nd goal for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League to continue chasing the record of 1,000 goals in his career.

As he prepares for his final World Cup in June, Ronaldo’s most recent goal was his 19th in 23 games for Jorge Jesus’ team this season. Martinez, the national team manager of the former Manchester United player, has praised his player’s professionalism and said he will lead Portugal in North America.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 143 goals in 226 international matches, will marshal Portugal at the 2026 WC, where the Selecao will be eyeing their maiden World Cup trophy.

“If you were going to analyse a player that is dropping at a physical level, that’s not the case,” Martinez asserted in reference to Ronaldo.

Martinez, however, maintained that Ronaldo can play for as long as he desires because of his dedication to staying in top form.

The coach added: “Well, we got all the stats. If you were going to analyse a player that is dropping at physical level, that’s not the case.”

“His physical stats are of a player that could go on and on and on. I think it’s more a question of when he’ll feel that is the right time.”

“I think he’s a player that is very critical with himself. When he doesn’t see that he can help the team, he’ll be the one that will decide when to stop.”
