City want to make sure that they don’t have to sell the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.

Manchester City are set to make Rodri the second-highest-paid player at the club as they are set to offer the player a contract renewal, which will keep him at City until 2029.

This is mainly due to fend off interest from Real Madrid, who are keen to bring the Spanish midfielder in by offering a reasonable bid to City.

City’s objective to keep Rodri for more years signals his continued dominance at the club from the middle of the pitch, and he remains one of the most important players of Pep Guardiola’s projects.

His absence from last season was deeply felt after City endured one of the worst seasons in recent times, and for the first time, Guardiola went trophyless in a season in his career.

Currently, Rodri reportedly makes €13.7 million per season, which will increase once he renews his deal with the club. It will be a big move for City, as they won’t fear losing their most crucial player.

Rodri has now returned to action and also participated in the Club World Cup, but it will certainly take time for him to return to his top form. Next season will be essential for both player and the club to challenge for trophies.
