After twelve years, the Irishman left the Red Devils in 2005. The 54-year-old Keane brought his old deals to an episode of The Overlap podcast featuring Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, and Gary Neville, a former teammate.
In order to highlight the intriguing details that can be included in a player’s contract, one of his agreements was presented to the camera.

Keane was paid £1 million annually until the end of the four-year contract, which included a portion of his signing-on fee. According to one of the clauses, Manchester United will fly him and his family between Manchester and Cork, Ireland.
It read: “The club will provide 20 return flights Manchester/Cork/Manchester for the use of the player, his partner and children for each year of this contract commencing from 1 July 2002.”
A clause also stated: “The club shall release the player for National Representative matches for which he is selected in accordance with the principles of co-operation between Member Associations of Fifa and their clubs.”

The contract also revealed the wording that allows players to feature for the national side. Keane played 67 times for the Republic of Ireland during his career, scoring nine goals.
However, Roy Keane consented to responsibilities to the club; therefore, the deal was not entirely in the player’s favour. As part of this, “reasonable assistance” was given to the club’s internal media outlet, MUTV.
Ironically, his departure from the team was caused by an interview with MUTV in which he disparaged his teammates.
His contract stipulated that he would need to be available “without limitation” for interviews and photo sessions for the Premier League giants.
Additionally, Keane consented to have United “entitled to use his name, nickname, signature, image, voice and film portrayal and other characteristics” in relation to goods sales. He was also paid £2.3m for his final season before retiring in 2011.
