The 2034 FIFA World Cup will see 48 nations compete for the trophy.

The 48-team competition will be held in fifteen stadiums spread over five cities, including eight in the capital, according to reports. Saudi Arabia were the only candidate for the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Days before the kingdom officially filed its application to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the announcement was made. According to the bid publication, which was obtained by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Saudi Arabia intends to hold “the largest-ever edition” of the competition in a single nation.

Five potential host cities for the tournament are listed in the bid book, including the capital Riyadh, Jeddah on the Red Sea, Al Khobar, Abha and NEOM, a $500 billion modern new city, according to SPA.

The specifications of Saudi Arabia’s proposal to host the biggest FIFA World Cup ever to be staged in a single nation were made public by FIFA on Wednesday.

Following the Kingdom’s official bid book presentation for the FIFA World Cup 2034, an official FIFA event took place in Paris on Monday. This was followed by the unveiling.

Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, fully supports the official bid’s theme, “Growing Together.” It presents Saudi Arabia’s ambitious objectives and infrastructure initiatives while highlighting the historical changes that have occurred in the Kingdom.

The tournament will be held in five cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Alkhobar, Abha and NEOM. There will be fifteen stadiums in the cities, eleven of which are planned at this time.

Eight stadiums would be used to host World Cup events in Riyadh, including the King Salman Stadium, which is expected to be completed in 2029 and can hold over 92,000 fans for the tournament’s inaugural and final matches. It will serve as the Saudi national team’s new home field.

King Fahd Sports City Stadium, which is slated to undergo renovations to the highest international standards, is another landmark in Riyadh. It is anticipated that the arena will hold 70,000 spectators.
