Sergio Ramos backs Kylian Mbappe to win 2025 Ballon d'Or over Ousmane Dembele & Lamine Yamal

The French striker won the European Golden Boot this season.
Sergio Ramos has backed Kylian Mbappe to win the Ballon d’Or ahead of other frontrunners, Ousmane Dembele & Lamine Yamal.
Despite admitting that the Frenchman failed to win any significant trophies with his side in the 2024–25 season, the renowned former Real Madrid centre-back weighed in on the Ballon d’Or debate and supported his former Paris Saint-Germain teammate Mbappe to win the honour this year.
Both played together at PSG
Between 2021 and 2023, Ramos and Mbappe played together for two seasons at Parc des Princes. While Mbappe joined Santiago Bernabeu last summer, the former Spanish international currently plays for Monterrey of Mexico. Despite winning the Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup in the first half of the season, the Frenchman had a challenging first few months.
Mbappe bounced back after a sluggish start to his Madrid career

But in the second part of the season, the 26-year-old settled in and finished his first season with Los Blancos with an unprecedented 43 goals in 56 games, earning the European Golden Shoe for his 31 LaLiga goals.
But his goals weren’t enough to prevent Barcelona from winning both the Copa del Rey and the league. In the meantime, they suffered a humiliating 5-1 quarterfinal loss to Arsenal, ending their Champions League defence.
Ramos feels Kylian Mbappe should win the Ballon d’Or this year ahead of Dembele and Yamal
Ramos, however, supports the French striker to win the Ballon d’Or ahead of players like Ousmane Dembele, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha because he thinks it’s an individual honour for which the requirements are never final.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Ramos said:
“I [will] always give it to Mbappe. Not just out of friendship, but also because he has put in some impressive performances. It’s a decisive trophy, but you never know what the criteria are for the Ballon d’Or… He scores goals, won the Golden Boot, even though Madrid hasn’t won other titles that other teams have won.”
What’s next for Ramos & Mabppe?
When Madrid begins their Club World Cup fight against Asian powerhouse Al-Hilal on Wednesday night, Mbappe will be looking to maintain his deadly goal-scoring form, while Ramos will face Champions League runners-up Inter early on Wednesday morning.
