De Gea came close to signing with Genoa before his move collapsed.

Fiorentina are now moving forward with the signing of David de Gea, as the goalkeeper seems to have finally found a club. However, the deal is yet to be announced. If he joins the Italian side, then the former Manchester United goalkeeper will sign a one-year contract with an option to extend for another.

Ever since De Gea left United, the Spanish goalkeeper has been without a club. Though he came close to joining another Italian club, Genoa, due to his high wage demand, the club decided to back out of his acquisition.

When his contract expired, United made the decision to part ways with David de Gea and signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan. Later, De Gea had interest from Saudi Pro League clubs but the custodian wanted to continue in Europe.

If everything is sorted out, the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper will join Serie A club Fiorentina on a one-year deal with the option to extend. It is understood that the 33-year-old himself asked for a one-year deal with €2 million package and an additional €1 million in bonuses.

De Gea will finally return to action after being out for at least a year now. The Spanish goalkeeper once again will be ready to demonstrate his goalkeeping traits between the sticks.

De Gea’s time off the pitch has been a different life for the player. He thought he would be continuing with United despite his deal expiration with the club after a decade at Old Trafford.

He left the team winning the Premier League. In the 2022–23 season, Manchester United wanted a goalkeeper who could play out from the back. There were many instances where De Gea’s distribution was questionable and a new goalkeeper was needed.

However, if he joins Fiorentina, he will have a chance to revitalise his career. His performances further might even attract big clubs from Europe after the end of the upcoming season.
