Slovakia pulled off a massive upset by beating Belgium 1-0 last game.

Slovakia and Ukraine, two nations whose Euro 2024 campaigns got off to quite different starts, square off in a fascinating Group E match on Friday.

Thanks to two fortuitous goals that were disallowed for Belgium, the Slovakians defeated them 1-0 in a match that left them just outside of the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, Romania, an underdog, defeated Ukraine 3-0 in a humiliating match. Serhiy Rebrov’s team are far from out of the woods and the two teams that lost on matchday one will likely triumph in this round of matches.

But, Ukraine are aware that a single more crushing defeat could put an end to their aspirations of making it to the second round of the Euros, with Belgium up next.

Slovakia will now try to make history by conquering both matches at a single major competition, as they have only ever won one in any of their previous four campaigns (World Cup 2010, Euro 2016, 2020 and this one).

When the joint top of Group E takes on an ineffective Ukraine at Düsseldorf Arena, they will know that a point will nearly ensure their advancement to the knockout stage.
