La Roja will be among the favourites to win the competition.

Spain, the current UEFA Euro champions, seems certain to be among the top candidates to win the FIFA World Cup in 2026. Coach Luis de la Fuente concurs that he sees two other nations in the same tier.

De la Fuente spoke with former coach Vicente del Bosque, who guided Spain to the 2010 FIFA World Cup victory in South Africa – still the nation’s lone international victory to date, on the podcast “La estrella que nos une.”

We must maintain our groundedness before making a crucial clarification, De la Fuente stated.

He said: “I’m not avoiding it, we’re favourites, but just as much favourites as England or France.”

He shared Del Bosque’s advice to approach North America “with caution” in this regard.

Luis de la Fuente expressed his views about the teams he thinks are most equipped to contend for the championship in those remarks. Many people consider Spain, the current UEFA Euro champions, to be among the favourites, although France also merits the title due to their recent results and the calibre of their lineup.

In contrast, England has not produced the same degree of agreement. They have easily advanced through qualification under Harry Kane’s leadership. But it is still unclear if they will be able to make an impact at a big event.

Nevertheless, the Spain coach thinks that The Three Lions are more ready than other established nations like Germany, Argentina, and Brazil.

Spain has, however, found it difficult to duplicate their success after winning the 2010 World Cup. La Roja did not get to the quarterfinals in any of their subsequent three FIFA tournament appearances.

They were eliminated in the group stage in 2014. They were unexpectedly eliminated in the round of 16 against Morocco in 2022 and Russia in 2018. Spain will want to break that run and meet expectations in North America in 2026.

When was the last time Spain won the World Cup?

In 2010.

How many World Cups has Spain won?

One.

Which major trophy has Luis de la Fuente led Spain to?

Euro 2024.
