Thibaut Courtois says Cristiano Ronaldo outshines Kylian Mbappe in winning mentality

Since joining them, Mbappe has been Madrid’s most prolific goalscorer.

Cristiano Ronaldo has “more of a winning mentality” than Kylian Mbappe, the current Real Madrid star, according to goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. However, the free-scoring No. 10 for Los Blancos is seen to be improving that aspect of his game. The French forward may eventually achieve a status at Santiago Bernabeu comparable to that of the Portuguese GOAT, Ronaldo.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner CR7 became Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer with 450 goals. Meanwhile, Mbappe has made 75 appearances at Santiago Bernabeu so far over the course of over 18 months, scoring 62 goals. This season, he has netted 18 goals across all competitions.

Kylian Mbappe, a 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, is regarded as a future Madrid leader. Although he hasn’t always been good at leadership, at 26 years old, experience is guiding him in that direction. There is a determination on his part to savour Champions League glory.

Thibaut Courtois backs Ronaldo with a more winning mentality compared to Mbappe

When asked if Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo are similar, Thibaut Courtois told El Partidazo from COPE that he thinks Mbappe can achieve his goals:

 “I haven’t been around Cristiano because the summer I arrived at Real Madrid he went to Juventus. I think they’re two different players, but Cristiano still has a bit more of a winning mentality than Kylian.”

“But this year Kylian has shown that mentality more; he’s stepped up his game and is really driving the team forward. You can tell he’s a leader, and it will become even more apparent with each match.”

In the later phases of his career, Ronaldo is still setting incredible standards. Despite being 40 years old, he continues to play a significant role for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. As he continues to pursue 1,000 career goals, CR7 is also anticipated to represent Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Like Ronaldo, Courtois will be remembered as a Real Madrid great when the time comes for him to depart. However, he is not certain that he will be regarded as Los Blancos’ greatest goalkeeper of all time.
