Tuchel feels the Three Lions will be underdogs in the World Cup competition.

Thomas Tuchel believes England are heading into the 2026 World Cup as “underdogs” and thinks they have “no chance” of winning unless they come together as a unit.

England have advanced to the finals of the European Championship on multiple occasions. However, since winning the World Cup in 1966, they have not advanced past the semifinals of this competition.

Tuchel feels the Three Lions are going to be underdogs in the World Cup

If the Three Lions defeat Latvia in Riga on Tuesday and Serbia lose to Albania or Andorra during the international break, they will advance to the World Cup for the following year.

“We will arrive as underdogs in the World Cup because we haven’t won it for decades, and we will play against teams who have repeatedly won it during that time, so we need to arrive as a team; otherwise, we have no chance,” Tuchel said.

Speaking about his team selection for the current international break, he added: “We try to collect the guys who in the end have the glue and cohesion to be the best team, because we need to arrive [at the World Cup] with the best team.”

Since taking over as England’s manager in January, 52-year-old Tuchel has won five of his six games, with the only loss occurring in a friendly match against Senegal.

Before they leave for the World Cup, the German coach will have just two more qualifier games to work with his players.

He was given an 18-month deal with the main objective of winning the World Cup for England.

England’s friendly match against Wales on Thursday and their World Cup qualifying match against Latvia on October 14 provide Tuchel with his most recent chance to consider his squad options.
