UEFA to honour all-time Champions League top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo with a special award this week in Monaco

Ronaldo has won five Champions League trophies in his career.
Cristiano Ronaldo will receive an award for scoring most goals in UEFA Champions League history from UEFA after the governing body confirmed their decision.
The former Real Madrid star holds the record for the highest number of goals in the history of the competition. The 39-year-old boasts 140 goals in 183 games in the competition, appearing for Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
UEFA have decided to honour the striker during the 36-team league phase draw ceremony in Monaco on Thursday.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the brightest stars in the UEFA Champions League constellation,” UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said in a statement.
“His extraordinary goal-scoring achievements in the competition seem destined to stand the test of time, posing a remarkable challenge for future generations to surpass.”
During his prime years, the former Manchester United player won five UCL titles and was an undisputed goalscorer. It saw him dubbed as “King of the Champions League.”
Ronaldo made his debut in the qualifying round of the tournament for Sporting back in 2002. Despite making his debut in the UEFA competition in 2002, the ex-Juventus star had to wait for four years to finally open his scoring account in the tournament.
Ronaldo finally got his much-awaited first goal in UCL when he netted in April 2007. It was in a quarterfinal second-leg victory over Roma. The rest is history. He went on to cement his legacy in the competition and scored the highest number of goals.
After his first goal against AS Roma, the Portuguese megastar continued to make history in the competition. He lifted his first trophy with United in 2008. Later four more times at Real Madrid in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
