USMNT fired Gregg Berhalter after the 2024 Copa America exit

USA are one of the hosts of the FIFA 2026 World Cup and will be looking to make a big impression are planning to change management. To fill the position of head coach, they have recently been in touch with Jurgen Klopp, the former manager of Liverpool.

The United States Men’s National Team were eliminated from Copa America in group stages, ending the competition in disappointment despite having big hopes placed on them.

The USNMT sacked Gregg Berhalter following their exit from Copa America, and now Klopp seems to be the top contender to replace him. But it will be challenging to make the former Borrusia Dortmund head coach who recently left Liverpool after 10 years.

USA have approached Klopp’s agent and will hope that he is ready to accept the offer before the start of the new World Cup. Klopp decided to quit Liverpool despite having two years left on his contract, stating he needed a break from coaching while insinuating that he may not return to club football at all.

The 57-year-old has been roaming around Europe enjoying vacation time with his family he was seen attending a Euros game and was also present in the Champions League final match, but an offer to become a national team coach could prove to be tempting given it will be less demanding compared to club one.

When Klopp left Dortmund he took a year’s sabbatical before Liverpool made an offer. Klopp was one of the longest-serving managers at Liverpool, guiding them to the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.

Jurgen Klopp’s final season with Liverpool

In his last season as the Reds’ manager, the German international led them to the Carabao Cup trophy, which was a disappointing end to his Liverpool stint.

A manager change could benefit the USA, who have struggled under Berhalter. They can learn from their North American counterparts, Canada, who appointed Jesse Marsch and he led them to the Copa America semifinal.

Moreover, they boast a better squad and have many players who play for the top European clubs and if they appoint a more pragmatic manager who can turn the fortunes around then they should press to make Klopp their head coach.

the German manager could prove to be an ideal manager who can make the USA into one of the dominant national teams at major tournaments.
