We will be in the 2026 World Cup final: Brazil manager Dorival Júnior

The Selecao last won the World Cup in 2002.

Brazil head coach Dorival Junior has made an audacious comment on the national team’s prospect of the FIFA 2026 World Cup and said the Selecao will be in the final of the tournament.

Brazil have endured a patchy run in the past months and despite being seen as the favourites to win the 2022 World Cup, they were eliminated in the quarter-final of the competition by Croatia on penalties.

This saw manager Tite step down as the coach of the national team, they then appointed Dorival as the permanent head coach of the team.

Copa America was another shot at making redemption but they once again failed to recover from their 2022 World Cup defeat and were sent home in the quarterfinal, which their rival Argentina won.

Meanwhile, their hopes of securing a place in the 2026 World Cup are in danger as they are currently fourth in the table and seeing Brazil struggle during the qualification despite boasting a plethora of talents is certainly a concerning situation for the team.

But the manager Dorival has high hopes for the national team and feels that they go deeper in the 2026 World Cup and can even secure the final spot, he said:

“We will be in the 2026 World Cup final. We will be finalists. You can film me while I’m saying this. I have no doubts. We will be there”.

Dorival words certainly express some belief that he can take his side to the final of World Cup since 2002. Brazil’s last time came close to reaching the final of the competition was in 2014, but were decimated by Germany 7-1 in the semi-final.

Since then the team has been eliminated in the quarterfinal by Belgium in the 2018 and 2022 World Cup. The 2026 World Cup is being hosted in America, Canada and Mexico and the South American giants will hope to finally end their World Cup drought.

Meanwhile, they will also hope that star player Neymar continues to play until then as his addition will give the national team the presence of one of the best players.
