What is the connection between Madonna and LaLiga club Celta?

On July 29, 1990, Madonna gave the first major international concert ever held in Vigo at Abanca Balaídos. That night, during her Blond Ambition Tour, the artist appeared on stage wearing a Celta jersey, with Jose Manuel Espinosa’s number 5 on the back. The image, captured by photographer Víctor de las Heras, eventually became an iconic memory for both the club and the city.
After the concert, the jersey disappeared, and its whereabouts remained unknown for decades. Thirty-six years later, Celta decided to resume the search and made a call to the fans, hoping to recover it, with the aim of adding it to their historical archive and preserving this unique piece of their emotional heritage.

The initiative included an open letter from president Marián Mouriño addressed to the artist and a moving musical tribute at Balaídos, where the SonDeSeu orchestra performed a Madonna song for the first time in their history, blending pop with Galician tradition and popular culture on the pitch.
The search continues, but the process has already left something valuable: the shared memory of an unrepeatable moment and a response from Madonna herself, who posted on her social media that she loved the tribute and believes she still has the jersey, showing that it was a unique moment for her, just as it was for the club.
