Serie A side defeated RB Leipzig 3-2 in the Champions League game.

After suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Juventus’ Champions League match against RB Leipzig, centre-back Gleison Bremer will have surgery, the team announced on Thursday.

Six minutes into Juve’s 3-2 victory over Leipzig on Wednesday, the 27-year-old Brazil international was substituted by Federico Gatti.

The Serie A club suffered another injury setback. The thigh muscle injury sustained by midfielder Nico Gonzalez caused Juventus yet another setback.

The moment Bremer departed the pitch, the Italian side appeared fragile at the back. They ended up allowing two goals. The Old Lady managed to rally in the game when Francisco Conceicao scored in the 82nd minute.

In the heart of the defence, the Old Lady should turn to Danilo, Juan Cabal, Pierre Kalulu, and Federico Gatti, to replace Bremier. Meanwhile, Timothy Weah and Francisco Conceiçao are expected to replace Nico Gonzalez on the right wing.

It’s a huge setback because, considering the lack of capable back-ups and their previous performance levels, Gonzalez and Bremer were the only players they couldn’t afford to lose. They ought to consider adding a free agent even if they most likely weren’t going to add in the winter transfer window.

Juventus will next be in action against Serie A team Cagliari on 6 October as they continue to put pressure on Napoli who are top of the table, while Thiago Motta’s side are second one point below them.

Meanwhile, this was their second Champions League win after they started their competition campaign with a 3-1 win against PSV.

“Gleison Bremer and Nico Gonzalez underwent diagnostic tests … which revealed an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the left knee for the former and a low-grade injury to the rectus femoris of the right thigh for the latter,” the club said in a statement.

“Bremer will undergo surgery in the coming days.”

Bremer, who signed with Juventus in 2022, has been a vital member of the Italian team’s defence, starting every minute of the Serie A season thus far. In his six games, the team did not let up a goal.
