The Frenchman missed Los Blancos’ recent game against Athletic Bilbao.
Kylian Mbappe was unable to play in Sunday’s narrow 1-0 LaLiga victory over Athletic Bilbao for Real Madrid. Due to a red card ban for a foul on Antonio Blanco of Deportivo Alaves, the forward was handed a one-game ban.
The Frenchman was jeered by spectators when he appeared on the big screen during the crucial match versus Bilbao. The chants in the match at Santiago Bernabeu say a lot about how the Madrid supporters currently feel about their star player.
Since statistics show that Los Blancos have won every game in every major competition this season when their top player has missed a game, Mbappe’s absence also sparked conversations about the player’s value to the squad.
In games without Mbappe, the Spanish powerhouses have gone undefeated in LaLiga, the UEFA Champions League, and the Copa del Rey. In games where their prolific No. 9 did not make the starting lineup, the team had three victories, two ties, and zero losses. When Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., and Rodrygo play together, Madrid’s attack is frequently unbalanced and predominantly through the left side.
Throughout this campaign, Carlo Ancelotti and his team have had to contend with the issue of all three attackers drifting to the left, leaving the right wing empty.
Mbappe’s most recent Real Madrid match was a fairly lacklustre attempt at a “comeback” against Arsenal at home. The Gunners easily won 2-1, winning the match 5-1 overall. After suffering an ankle injury in a crunching tackle, he was substituted off in the 75th minute.
Much criticism was also directed at Mbappe’s red card against Alaves. The player will be available next for the LaLiga match against Barcelona on May 11th. His suspension was only for one game. With six games remaining, Real Madrid are presently four points behind their upcoming opponents.
