The Brazilian star underwent knee surgery.

Neymar underwent knee surgery on December 22 to address problems he has been experiencing during the 2025 season. The arthroscopy was required for him to achieve a complete physical condition, even if the injury did not stop him from playing with Santos in the last stages of the Brazilian Serie A. A possible return date for the 33-year-old forward has surfaced one month following the procedure.

Santos played a 1-1 draw with Corinthians in their fourth Campeonato Paulista game. The team is now ranked ninth in the league and seven points behind league leaders Palmeiras after recording a win, two draws, and a loss.

Neymar’s set for a return from injury

The Brazilian star’s potential return date has been confirmed ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

“If the most optimistic timelines hold, Neymar could enjoy his first minutes on Wednesday, February 4, when Santos face their league derby against Sao Paulo at Vila Belmiro,” reported Sport on Thursday.

The Brazilian Football Confederation was compelled to create a unique schedule for this year due to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Before starting the Serie A competition, Brazilian teams usually concentrate on their state titles in the first few months of the season.

However, because of the World Cup break in North America this year, the program has been shortened. As a result, Santos will start playing in the Brazilian Serie A while continuing to compete in the Campeonato Paulista.

Santos drew with Corinthians last week and will play Bragantino tonight in the state competition. They will visit Chapecoense on Wednesday to make their Serie A debut. The following Saturday, they will play São Paulo in the Campeonato Paulista.

Neymar may make his formal comeback to action following knee surgery when they play the same opponent in the Brazilian Serie A on February 4.

Neymar will require four full months of playing time to attain top physical and sporting shape before the 2026 FIFA World Cup if recovery timelines proceed as anticipated and he does not delay his return.

Which injury did Neymar suffer?

He sustained a knee injury.

When will he return from the injury?

He is expected to return on 4th February.
