PSG are the most dominant team, winning the title 13 times.

The 88th season of France’s top football league, Ligue 1, will be called Ligue 1 McDonald’s for sponsorship purposes. It is scheduled to start on August 15, 2025, and end on May 16, 2026.

There will be 18 teams competing in the 2025–2026 Ligue 1 season. After placing first, second, and third in the 2024–25 Ligue 2, respectively, Lorient (who returned to the top flight after a one-year absence), Paris FC (who returned to the top division after a 46-year absence), and Metz (who returned to the top flight after a one-year absence) were promoted.

They took the place of Montpellier, who were demoted after sixteen years in the top division, Saint-Etienne, who were demoted after just one season, and Reims, who were demoted after seven years.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain continued their dominance in the league as they secured their 13th title last season and will once again look to defend the championship.

Luis Enrique’s side not only won the title but also went on to win the Champions League and Coupe de France to become the first French team to win the treble.

However, many other clubs will aim to challenge PSG, with the likes of Marseille and AS Monaco, who enjoyed a decent season last term, having reinforced their squad for the new campaign.

Monaco have landed the likes of Paul Pogba and Ansu Fati ahead of the new season, while Marseille have been impressive under the tutelage of Roberto de Zerbi.

Not only will French fans be provided with an intense title fight for the new season, but other devoted followers of the league who watched from different countries will also be looking forward to watching the league. Indians as well will be prepared to support their favourite clubs in the league.
