The Spanish Super Cup has been around since 1982.

Spanish Super Cup or the Supercopa de España is an annual football event contested in Spain. Since its inception, it has been a part of the Spanish football calendar every year. The thing that started as a two-team competition – comprising of LaLiga and Copa del Rey winners, has changed a bit recently.

Now we see four teams competing for this honour. This change was brought about from 2020 onwards and seems to have added much more excitement to the event. This season, 2024-25, we see the four teams being Real Madrid, their arch-rivals Barcelona, Mallorca and Athletic Club. Los Blancos are the defending champions who are facing Mallorca on January 9 while the other two face off against each other later today. The winner of both these individual clashes will compete in the final for the trophy.

For a fact, Real Madrid have 13 titles to their name, and by winning this edition they can tie themselves with Barcelona who have the most titles in history (14). Can Barcelona stop them? Maybe, maybe not. Both teams are strong enough to reach the finals from their respective ties paving the way for another super El Clasico showdown.
