The Portuguese phenom might try his hand at managing when he retires.

Rene Meulensteen claims that Cristiano Ronaldo will only be interested in one managerial position, and it is not with Manchester United.

A debate has started about Ronaldo’s plans at age 39 when it comes to hanging up his record-breaking career. A move into coaching has been suggested for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who has no plans to retire anytime soon as he plans to attain 1,000 career goals.

Many potential landing jobs have been proposed, with some speculating that the all-time great would be interested in a third stint at Old Trafford. Meulensteen, a former assistant boss for the Red Devils, is not persuaded that a man who has enough money to live in luxury for several lives would want to pursue a managing career.

However, when questioned about a future in managing for Cristiano Ronaldo, Meulensteen, speaking on behalf of Mega Dice, told GOAL that one role might entice Ronaldo into the dugout:

“Whether he has got that ambition to become a manager, I don’t know. Maybe. Would he like to manage Portugal in the future? I would probably say yes, because he’s so passionate about representing Portugal. I could see him wanting that. Although it is different, international management from club management, you still need to work. Sometimes you can be a man-manager in an international side without having to coach, it’s more about the man-management side if you have good staff around you – they can do lots of stuff. In international football coaching is so limited due to the lack of time that you have got. It could be something that is well suited to him.”

Cristiano Ronaldo is still a key member of Portugal’s playing team for the time being, and he continues to play well for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. The transformation of the Portuguese GOAT from a tricky winger into a formidable frontman was partially attributed to Sir Alex Ferguson’s former right-hander Meulensteen.

Five goals for Sporting, 145 goals over two stints at United, 450 goals for Real Madrid, 101 goals for Juventus, and 80 goals in 89 games for Al-Nassr have all been scored by Ronaldo. With 217 caps and a record-breaking haul of 135 for Portugal, he is rapidly approaching yet another historic accomplishment that will free up more time to consider what comes next.
