Who is Alvaro Carreras? Former Man United left-back linked with Real Madrid

Los Blancos already have a deal in place with Alvaro Carreras for his transfer.
The LaLiga and European giants Real Madrid have already started leaving a mark in the transfer window. They have already signed Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth. Meanwhile, talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold are underway. A deal is likely to be confirmed soon.
Los Blancos struggled with their defence a lot this season (2024-25). It was a big reason as to why they missed out on trophies like the UEFA Champions League, LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s attacking front got strengthened after Kylian Mbappe joined them at the start of the 2024-25 season.
Real Madrid are looking to sign some players before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, as they don’t want to miss out on another trophy. They are eyeing a left-back now. He’s from SL Benfica and goes by the name Alvaro Carreras. The player had played for their Juvenil C team at the beginning of his career.
Los Blancos are bringing in Xabi Alonso as their new manager, and Álvaro Carreras seems like a good fit for his system. The LaLiga giants need a proper wing-back and the young Spaniard can play a crucial role exactly in that very position. Real Madrid are already in talks with the player, but they have not yet contacted SL Benfica for the transfer, as per reports.
Who is Alvaro Carreras?
Alvaro Carreras caught the eye of many top European clubs after his stunning displays for Benfica this season. He has been a part of the U-19 and U-21 Spain national football teams.
He was a part of the Racing de Ferrol academy for five years. Carreras then went on to join Deportivo de La Coruña academy, where he converted into a full-back. He left Deportivo and went on to join the Real Madrid academy in 2017 at the age of 14. He then became a part of the Manchester United academy in 2020.
At Man United, Alvaro Carreras was promoted to the senior team but did not play a single game for them, who were led by Erik ten Hag at that time. In 2023, he made a move to Benfica on loan. Later, the Portuguese side made the move for the left-back on a permanent basis in 2024.
Carreras has offers from teams like Liverpool and Manchester United as well. But expect Real Madrid not to give up easily after looking into his recent performances for Benfica in the UCL.
Carreras’ playing style
Alvaro Carreras is a left-back who also excels in the role of a wing-back. He helps his side on the attacking front with his dynamic plays. He is a versatile youngster from Spain who can defend well and can contribute in the final third for his side.
He has caught the eye of many top European clubs after his recent performances with his sharp passing and effective movements on the field. Carreras developed under the Real Madrid academy and later under the Manchester United academy, due to which one can say he has a solid foundation. The player has come up with some stunning displays at such a young age.
Alvaro Carreras comes up with good anticipation and positioning skills, but he has to work on refining his one-on-one defending skills, as he is currently not the best at winning the duels.
