This year’s Ballon d’Or is going to be very unpredictable.

One of the most renowned awards that honours a player’s excellence over the course of the season is the Ballon d’Or. It is widely regarded as the most prestigious award in football.

For years we have seen many players get their hands on awards, but there was a period where the prize was only dominated by two stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but this time they are not even in the 30 nominees for the first time.

It’s very strange to see this as they have been ruling the accolade for years and now none of them has made it to the list. Well, this is football and there will be others who will be looking to get their hands on the award.

This time we have the top three favourites to win the prize and this Ballon d’Or is going to be most unpredictable as all those top three contenders have a chance to win it.

Who actually deserves to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or?

Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Rodri are currently the leading figures to win the award and it’s very unpredictable as to who deserves more as all three have enjoyed a productive campaign. Both Bellingham and Vinicius led Real Madrid to the Champions League trophy, and the England international was the second top scorer of Los Blancos in his maiden season.

The 21-year-old was sensational last season for Madrid; given it was his first season it was even more spectacular for him. He produced 23 goals and 13 assists across all competitions for the Spanish club, and moreover, he also led England to the final of Euro 2024. He had a role in many important goals as his goal against Serbia and Slovakia played a crucial role in driving the Three Lions to the final.

Had Bellingham won the 2024 Euro then he would have been the clear favourite to win the award but now it’s very unpredictable. Meanwhile, his teammate, Vinicius did enjoy an impressive campaign with Real but with Brazil during Copa America, he was disappointing as he failed to make any impact and the Selecao were eliminated from the quarterfinal.

However, he was excellent for the team, with 12 assists and 24 goals across all competitions. Bellingham and Vinicius appear to have performed similarly, making it difficult to determine who should win. However, Bellingham may have had a leg up because it was his first season and he set numerous records.

However, it won’t be surprising if Rodri takes the award as the midfielder was a main orchestra behind Spain’s success in the Euro 2024 in July. The midfielder’s presence provided Spain with a massive upgrade in their performance and it resulted in them enjoying a spectacular tournament.

However, in club football, he is even more worthy because, in 50 games last season, he played as a defensive midfielder and provided nine goals and fourteen assists, making him an overwhelming favourite to win the award.

If Rodri wins the award then he will be the first-ever Spanish player since Luis Suarez in 1960 to claim the prize. However, many would argue that Vinicius and Bellingham deserve more than Rodri.

However, Rodri’s performance from the previous season is something we hardly ever see from a defensive midfielder who serves as an additional shield for defence, and considering his significant goal and assist total, he ought to win. He also won his fourth Premier League title in a row with Manchester City.

Rodri deserves more than Bellingham and Vinicius because we will continue to see forwards winning this award, but it’s every once in a while that we see a midfielder taking the prize home. Luka Modric broke Ronaldo and Messi’s hegemony to win the accolade just by winning the Champions League and taking Croatia to the final of the 2018 World Cup.

In addition to being City’s most valuable player, Rodri’s performance and statistics speak for themselves, demonstrating how influential he was to Spain’s victory in the 2024 European Championship.
