Over the years the sport has continued to grow
Football is one of the most widely recognised sports in the world. It allows so many players to fulfil their aspirations. In comparison to other sports, football is arguably the most well-known sport in the world.
The sport has brought so many people together regardless of race, gender or anything else. Everyone enjoys football. Over the years the sport has continued to grow. The game is played on every continent. The sport boasts way too many leagues. But what unites every nation is the FIFA World Cup. It is the dream of every nation to win the FIFA World Cup trophy.
Football can be played anywhere, be it on the streets, back yards and gardens, or on pristine pitches. The game can be played both indoors and outdoors as well as on the virtual plane (e.g. EA FC 24).
Many might wonder why there are a total of 22 players running behind the ball, but it’s quite beautiful to see how the sport has developed since its inception. But how was this sport established?
Who invented football?
If we are to figure out the inception of the beautiful game, then we will have to go back to the 19th century, when the sport was invented and graced by many people. The sport began with the rules being brought in by the Football Association (FA) in 1863.
Since then, football has just grown with many new things introduced to the sport. Technology has played a key part in developing the sport.
However, if we look at the actual invention of football, it was way back when people used to play with the lawn balls of public schools, but with no standardised set of rules. The games were rather chaotic.
Back then, there were many different rules, such as the Cambridge rules and the Sheffield rules. It often created disagreements and confusion between the players.
Meanwhile, nobody has the authority to claim that they invented the beautiful game, but Ebenezer Morley has been referred to as the ‘father’ of the Football Association.
Morley was the founder of Barnes Football Club. His written letter to Bell’s Life resulted in a meeting that established the rules of the game. The meeting took place on October 26, 1863, at the Freemasons’ Tavern on Great Queen Street in London. It had representatives from 12 clubs. It was there the game of football was soon codified.
Now the sport is controlled and governed by FIFA worldwide. FIFA was established in 1904 (41 years after the FA). The IFAB (International Football Association Board) is the so-called ‘guardian’ of the Laws of the Game. It is run by FIFA and the four British associations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
