The 6’6 striker has shone at the European Under-21 Championship.

Nick Woltemade, a powerful striker for VfB Stuttgart, is a target for Bayern and Real Madrid. Moreover, Chelsea are also interested.

With six goals, notably a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Slovenia, Woltemade has shown himself to be a remarkable talent at the European Under-21 Championship this summer. The Stuttgart striker finished 10th in the top scorers chart of the Bundesliga 2024-25 season with 12 league goals in 28 appearances.

Woltemade, who is 6’6″, is linked to a possible transfer to Bayern Munich in addition to rumours related to the Blues and Los Blancos. The player is reported to have a verbal agreement with the Bundesliga giants, although the clubs involved are yet to discuss a transfer. If he moves, he would be considered a good, possible backup option for the super clubs.

The 23-year-old played four seasons at Werder Bremen before joining Stuttgart for just last summer. He did manage to rack up two senior goals throughout his tenure at Bremen.

Who is Bayern’s target Nick Woltemade?

Woltemade began his football career for the youth team TS Woltmershausen, where he was nurtured into a talented striker. After his status grew in Germany, Werder Bremen’s youth team were the first to notice his skills.

In 2010, Woltemade left the youth team of TS Woltmershausen to join Werder Bremen. He played in 24 games for Werder Bremen’s U17 team in the U17 Bundesliga during the 2018–19 season, tallying 18 goals and dishing out eight assists.

Woltemade received his initial call-up to the first team squad for a Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen on January 11, 2020, after scoring seven goals in eight games for the U19 team.

At the age of 17 years, 11 months, and 16 days, he made his first-team debut on February 1, 2020, in a 2-1 league game loss to FC Augsburg, making him the youngest Bundesliga footballer in Werder Bremen’s history.

However, Bremen decided to loan the striker for his further growth. Nick Woltemade signed a one-year loan with SV Elversberg, who had just been returned to the 3. Liga, in August 2022. There he spent a season and recorded decent goals, scoring 10 in 31 matches.

His exploits impressed another top Bundesliga club, VfB Stuttgart. They swooped in to secure the talented centre-forward’s services.

Woltemade inked a four-year contract with VfB Stuttgart starting from the 2024–25 season. He scored 17 goals overall at the end of his rookie campaign, including one in the DFB-Pokal final, which his team won.

His performance also saw him receive a call-up to the Germany national senior team, and the striker featured in the UEFA Nations League games against Portugal and France. Now he is courted by one of the big clubs of Europe – namely Bayern.

Nick Woltemade’s playing style

Woltemade is a dynamic forward who has earned the moniker “Woltemessi” and is compared to players like Saša Kalajdžić due to his uncommon combination of size and talent.

Despite his height, he thrives with the ball at his feet, displaying exceptional close control and dribbling ability. Woltemade is a creative presence in possession because of his ability to hold up the ball, link plays, and find passes under duress.

He can play as a deep-lying striker, sliding into midfield to launch attacks. His physicality and aerial abilities have also improved.

Woltemade, who is 6’6″, has a presence in the box. He skillfully uses his frame to cover the ball and play hold-up. All things considered, Woltemade’s style of play blends technical skill with physical strength, making him a formidable opponent and an invaluable member of his squad.
