The Red Devils have sacked Erik ten Hag.

In Manchester United’s first game after Erik ten Hag was fired, Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in charge of the team’s Carabao Cup matchup against Leicester City.

Ten Hag was fired, and the former United striker has been put in charge in the interim until a permanent head coach is chosen.

Ten Hag was fired after United had their poorest Premier League season start ever, winning just one of eight games and finishing 14th in the standings.

However, when United hosts Leicester at Old Trafford, they will aim to get back to their winning form in the Carabao Cup and advance to the quarterfinals.

This Sunday’s Premier League matchup against Chelsea is the first of two home games that Van Nistelrooy is probably going to be in command of this week.

Ten Hag attributed United’s bad season start to injuries and claimed that absences were causing them to lag behind before the team’s late loss to West Ham.

Van Nistelrooy is currently dealing with United’s injury list, as a number of first-team players are unable to play against Leicester.

Manchester United ‘in contact’ with Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim

Sporting Lisbon have confirmed that Manchester United are willing to pay a €10 million (£8.3 million) release clause for Ruben Amorim, who is expected to become the team’s next manager.

The release clause has reportedly been activated, and the Portuguese coach may now be hired and travel to England in time to lead Man United for their Sunday’s Premier League match against Chelsea, according to sources that escalated talks between United and Sporting on Tuesday.

The Old Trafford leadership placed the 39-year-old at the top of the candidates to succeed Erik ten Hag, and Amorim has accepted to take over as the club’s next manager.

“Manchester United have registered an interest in hiring Ruben Amorim and paying his €10m release clause,” a statement from Sporting said.
