Many big names, including Antony, have been omitted from the Selecao roster.

Brazil, the five-time champions hoping to improve on their record, is the most recent country to announce their 26-man squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

There won’t be a more decorated coach in the North American dugout than Carlo Ancelotti, who will guide Brazil into the World Cup. With their most recent victory being in 2002, Brazil have won the World Cup more times than any other country. They will be eager to add more.

Football aficionados will undoubtedly recognise several names, such as Bruno Guimarães of Newcastle United, Gabriel Magalhães of Arsenal, and Alisson of Liverpool. Additionally, Casemiro and Matheus Cunha of Manchester United, Gabriel Martinelli of Arsenal, Igor Thiago of Brentford, and Rayan of AFC Bournemouth have their spots in the squad.

Neymar’s selection in Carlo Ancelotti’s impressive 2026 World Cup roster is the main topic of discussion. Although his inclusion in the squad was questioned, the 34-year-old has been called up and is expected to play a significant role in Brazil’s tournament this summer.

Joao Pedro and Antony are some of the most well-known names that Ancelotti has left out. Brazil have a lot of attacking alternatives. But they appear to be lacking in midfield, particularly if they sustain one or more injuries.

It was a bit surprising to see Ancelotti not call up Antony. The forward has enjoyed a decent club season with Real Betis, following his permanent move to the Spanish club.

Antony has produced eight goals and six assists in 31 LaLiga matches this season. It should be an ideal number for a player who recently struggled for consistency during his time at Manchester United.

However, Ancelotti explained the reason for the omission of Antony and other players. He said:

“Some of the players who were with us ‌this year won’t be happy with this list. I’m sorry, and I want to thank everyone who was with us.”

Why was Antony not called up?

Ancelotti didn’t give a specific reason for that.

Is Neymar called up?

Yes.
