Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti was in attendance for this match.
As his chances of making a comeback to the Brazil national team increased in recent days, Neymar has once again found himself back in the spotlight. However, the forward missed Santos’ match against Mirassol FC while Carlo Ancelotti watched from the stands.
In the wake of the incident, the 34-year-old broke his silence and stated bluntly, “Nothing is going on,” dispelling rumours of a new ailment.
Ancelotti’s attacking options have been severely limited because both Rodrygo and Estêvão, two important attackers, are currently unavailable due to injury.
Reports suggest that the Italian coach had added Neymar to his initial preliminary roster for Brazil’s forthcoming friendlies against France and Croatia. This would have meant a comeback for Neymar to the national team following a two-year absence.

Neymar’s return to the national team has now apparently been seriously jeopardised by Santos and the player’s choice to rest him for the Mirassol match. Neymar’s absence from Tuesday night’s match took the fans off guard and generated a great deal of frustration because both the CBF and his national team manager had been keeping a close eye on the situation.
Neymar was unable to participate in tactical training sessions until last Sunday, but Santos have insisted that he is not hurt. As a result, it was decided to rest him for the Mirassol match.
Nevertheless, rumours soon spread that the forward, who had played the entire ninety minutes in each of his previous two games, had sustained yet another injury that would prevent him from being called up in March international break.
Neymar issues injury update after missing recent Santos game
Neymar corrected the record on his Instagram stories a few hours before the match’s kickoff:
“Since there are so many people creating theories about what’s going on with me: nothing is going on. If I play through an injury, like they said last year, I’m wrong. If I look out for myself, I’m wrong. If I rest, I’m wrong. If I play with pain or something that could get worse, I’m wrong. It’s a mess, isn’t it? It’s very hard to win, man. It’s very hard, very hard to please everyone.“
Why did Neymar not play against Mirassol?
He was rested for the game.
