Les Bleus will be aiming for their third World Cup title without Eduardo Camavinga.
The France national football team have lifted the prestigious trophy twice. Once in 1998 and then in 2018. They were very close to winning the competition for the third time, but Lionel Messi’s Argentina came out on top, outplaying them in the final of the 2022 edition.
Didier Deschamps has announced the 26-man squad for the upcoming edition of FIFA’s flagship tournament. Les Bleus has a star-studded lineup. They are one of the favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The French are set to face Norway, Senegal and Iraq in the group stage. The mega competition will be hosted by three countries, including the USA, Canada and Mexico. There are going to be a total of 48 teams that will lock horns for the prestigious title.
The tournament is all set to kick off on June 11, and the final will be played on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA. With the top performers in the attacking front and strong control in the midfield, the France national football team have a balanced squad on paper.
It will be interesting to see their performances in the defensive back position as well. There, they have stars like Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano as the main pillars of the wall.
Why has Eduardo Camavinga been left out?

Didier Deschamps mentioned that the main criterion to select the players is performance. Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele are going to headline the attacking front. Adrien Rabiot, alongside Aurélien Tchouaméni and N’Golo Kanté, can maintain control in midfield well.
Meanwhile, Eduardo Camavinga has been left out due to his underwhelming performances for Real Madrid this season.
“He (Eduardo Camavinga) had a difficult season for himself where he played less. He also had injuries,” Deschamps said. “It’s true that he’s a player who came very early with us. He is still a young player.”
“Because I have choices to make, the squad structure also has to be even among the defenders, the midfielders and the forwards. But I understand and I imagine his enormous disappointment this evening.”
Names like Lucas Chevalier and Randal Kolo Muani have also been left out.
