Speaking about the appointment, Hoeness disclosed that former Bayern manager Pep Guardiola had an unanticipated but significant influence on their ultimate decision.
“When we called Pep Guardiola before signing Vincent and asked what he thought of him…
…he said we could take Kompany blindly,” Hoeness told Kicker.
In October of last year, FC Bayern gave head coach Vincent Kompany an early contract extension that will last until the summer of 2029. Uli Hoeness, the honorary president of Bayern, has now disclosed the “underlying reason” for this choice.
“His contract is until 2029, that’s five years… an eternity in today’s football. That was an incredible show of faith. We wanted to express that we are completely convinced of his work.”
Vincent Kompany was earlier seen as an inexperienced candidate, and it was questioned if the German club had taken a massive gamble by appointing him. However, the former Premier League defender needed only a season to demonstrate his managerial acumen and shut down all the critics.
