As they play Liga Portugal team Rio Ave in a friendly match in the Estádio Algarve tonight, Saudi Pro League powerhouse Al-Nassr will hope to return to winning ways in the pre-season.

Cristiano Ronaldo has had a difficult summer; there were rumours of him considering going on a short loan to a club to play in the FIFA Club World Cup. But those rumours were put to an end after the forward signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay until 2027.

Despite Joao Felix’s debut, Al-Nassr received a harsh welcome to Portugal after losing to lower-league underdogs Estrela da Amadora in a closed-door friendly over the weekend. The team’s preseason had begun brightly last week when they defeated the French team Toulouse in Austria.

Al-Nassr will be eager to have their sea legs behind them before the 2025–26 season starts in earnest. Their first competitive match is quickly coming on August 19 against Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo was once again in the spotlight during their first pre-season match when he netted in their 2-1 win against Toulouse.

Last season, the former Real Madrid player finished the season as the top scorer in the league and will once again look to dominate the league’s scoring chart. However, his main objective will be to finally lift a silverware, after failing to do so since he arrived in Saudi Arabia.
