Michael Carrick faces a serious defensive dilemma as a result of the 33-year-old’s punishment for his violent response to the fourth official after receiving a red card against Bournemouth.
Harry Maguire’s misbehaviour allegation will see him miss the Chelsea game, according to The Athletic. The England international previously served a separate suspension during Monday’s 2-1 home loss to Leeds United after being dismissed during United’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth.
Following Harry Maguire’s red card for a professional foul on Evanilson at Bournemouth, the defender allegedly cursed at fourth official Matt Donohue, prompting the FA to take formal action.
The league’s stringent rules regarding participant behaviour toward match officials are considered to have been seriously violated by this exchange.
FA hands Harry Maguire a one-match ban after his violent conduct
Regarding the particulars of the accusation made against the seasoned centre back, the FA said:
“It is alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal.”
Carrick will probably have to start Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven as a young centre-back duo against Chelsea, with Lisandro Martinez also suspended. Chelsea can cut the distance with their rivals to four points with a victory. Meanwhile, United are in third place in the Premier League.
These young United players will be put to the test at one of the league’s most hostile settings as the season approaches a pivotal point, and there is no senior cover available.
