The Frenchman has scored three goals in UCL this season.
With tonight’s first leg at the Etihad between Manchester City and Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid, the last two Champions League winners will now have to battle for their spot in the round of 16 of the 2024–25 season.
The hosts had to mount a comeback on matchday eight to save themselves from the humiliation of an early elimination. Even though the defending European champions were only one point away from sneaking into the top eight.
After winning their record-tying 15th title at Wembley last year, Real Madrid’s dominance in Europe also waned. Three losses in their first five continental games of the season threatened their traditional spot in the knockout stages.
But they managed to avoid an early embarrassment and secured a place in the play-offs round. Now the Los Blancos will take on another formidable side in the hope of progressing to the round of 16.
It will be a challenging outing for them as they have struggled to perform against Man City, last time they had to beat them on spot-kicks to go deeper in the competition. Meanwhile, this time they are set to be without a number of key players.
However, the Los Blancos will have to depend on their attacking line to save themselves in this game, and given Kylian Mbappe has started scoring goals regularly has come at the right time as he is going to be a crucial figure in this match.
Will Kylian Mbappe play tonight?
Kylian Mbappe has now increasingly become the most pivotal player at the club and his presence in the game has handed the Los Blancos some flair in the attack. Mbappe was a part of the travelling squad and was also spotted in team training and looks set to be in the starting lineup to face City and will hope to help his side secure an important win.
It’s also important to note that Mbappe has now become their key goal contributor and is now the second top-scorer in the Laliga despite struggling during the early months after his move to the Spanish capital.
Madrid will be counting on him to produce a moment of genius in the game as they know he is the most influential player in their squad besides Vinicius Jr.
