The Brazilian returned to action recently from an injury against Fluminense FC.
Santos will return to action tonight when they face São Paulo in the Brasileiro Série A. The Brazilian club have been in poor form since the start of the new season. They are currently 14th in the table with just four points in their last four games.
The sluggish performance has also seen them sack Pedro Caixinha. Now the club are currently without a coach going into this game.
To make things worse, their star player Neymar has once again suffered a new injury after the forward returned from a long injury against Fluminense.
This has further raised doubts about his participation against Sao Paulo in tonight’s match as Santos prepare for another difficult outing.
Will Neymar play tonight?
No, Neymar won’t play tonight after picking up a new injury in the midweek game against Atlético Mineiro.
Due to a left thigh injury, he had to depart the pitch in Santos’ 2-0 victory over Atlético-MG on Wednesday after just 34 minutes. It ended his eagerly awaited first start in the Brazilian Championship.
The 33-year-old started the game with both legs clearly strapped, sporting a special No.100 jersey to mark his 100th appearance at Vila Belmiro.
Soon after, he started to show signs of pain in his left thigh, the same spot where he had sustained an injury during a Campeonato Paulista game that had kept him out of action for six weeks.
Last Sunday, the 33-year-old made a comeback from an injury as a substitute against Fluminense.
The attacker motioned to the bench to request a substitution shortly after Santos added a second goal to increase their lead. Then he collapsed on the field and needed help getting off the field.
A sentimental former Brazil teammate, Hulk, was among the opposition players and colleagues who consoled Neymar. As soon as he was on the bench, he started getting treatment, having his wounded thigh covered with an ice pack.
The former Barcelona star missed Brazil‘s World Cup qualifying matches against Argentina and Colombia last month due to the injury to his left thigh.
