The guys in Saudi Arabia are overweight: World Cup winner speaks in favour of Ligue 1 after Cristiano Ronaldo's comments

Ronaldo has been criticised for his remarks on Ligue 1.
In a fervent defence of Ligue 1, Cristiano Ronaldo was reportedly told that his fellow Saudi Pro League players are “overweight” and “eat McDonald’s” every day.
Adil Rami, a former France international and World Cup champion has responded to Ronaldo’s repeated claims that the Saudi Pro League is superior to Ligue 1 and that all other teams are “finished” aside from Paris Saint-Germain, multiple winners. The former Lille and Marseille defender made fun of the Saudi league, claiming that the Portuguese megastar did not “realise” how brilliant the French first division is.
He said, via ActuFoot: “CR7, we may love him but that doesn’t mean because he had a fantastic career that as soon as he says something it’s the truth! The guys in Saudi Arabia are overweight. They eat McDonald’s every day! Come to France overweight and see how long you last! You don’t realise the level of Ligue 1.”
Not only him but the Ligue 1 account on social media has taken a jibe at the former Real Madrid star for his comments on the league.
It makes sense that Ronaldo, the Saudi Pro League’s poster boy, would want to highlight the division he plays in. Few would contend that Ligue 1 is inferior to the Saudi tier, despite the fact that many talented athletes have moved to the Middle East for the wealth it offers.
Ronaldo’s deal with Al Nassr expires in June 2025, and despite continuous negotiations for a renewal with the Saudi Pro League team, no progress has been made thus far. Towards the conclusion of January, Ronaldo is anticipated to announce his future with or without Al Nassr.
Since Ronaldo reaches 40 in February, an agreement in Riyadh or somewhere else would be necessary to fulfil his ultimate objective of captaining Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ronaldo will return to action for Al-Nassr on January 9 against Al Akhdoud, meanwhile this back-and-forth over the two leagues’ quality may go on.
