Yellow cards play an important role in the game of football.

Ever since football was introduced many things came along with the sport. Football is seen as the most entertaining sport in the world and has billions of fans following the sport.

Just like every sport, football also has its own rules and over time they have changed and grown and made the sport even more entertaining to watch.

During throw-in players use hands instead of legs when sport is played with legs. There are cards in football, yellow and red cards which are shown to the player for fouling the opposition players or protesting against the referee.

But what are these cards what part do they play in the game and how they can change the course of the match? take a look at the below article.

What does a yellow card mean in football?

To indicate that a player or team official has received an official warning, the referee will display a yellow card. In a little notebook known as a booking, the referee records the offender’s information, the time of the foul, and its nature.

Referees are there to make sure misbehaviour doesn’t cross the lines of fair play in football, even though accidents sometimes happen. A yellow card can be given for a variety of offences, including disrespect for opponents, playing too aggressively, being dangerous, and improper celebrations.

On caution, a player or a team official may still participate in the match. But a second yellow card means a red card—a send-off.

A player will be suspended from his team’s subsequent match if he obtains a yellow card in two separate games during tournaments or club leagues.

Yellow cards, however, are not carried over from the quarterfinals to the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup. Moreover, a yellow card in the semifinals won’t keep you out of the final game.

Players who enter the referee check area or make excessive requests for a “review” during a match that uses the VAR (video assistant referee) system may receive a warning.

According to the IFAB rulebook, the senior team manager who is in the technical area gets a caution if the foul is committed and the culprit cannot be identified.
