Top three youngest ever football players to win an international trophy; Lamine Yamal on list

Many players have went on to perform well for their respective national teams, but there are only a few young players who have been able to leave a mark at a very young age.

There are players who have been a highlight for their national teams in their early twenties. There are various examples, including recent performances by Harvey Elliott and Nick Woltemade for their respective national teams in the 2025 UEFA Euro U21 competition.

Then there is Kylian Mbappe, who won the World Cup with the France national football team when he was 19 years old. These top performances by these stars have helped them engrave their name in the history books.

But when it comes to being 16 or 17 years old, there are only three players who have made an appearance and also won an international final with their respective national teams.

3. Pelé (17 years, 249 days old)

It was the Brazilian legend and the football great Pelé who became the youngest ever to win an international final when he lifted the FIFA World Cup back in 1958 with the Brazil national football team. He scored a brace in the semi-final and a brace in the final, leading his side to a win.

Pelé then went on to win two more World Cups with his national team in 1962 and 1970 respectively. It helped him establish his legacy as one of the greatest players in the sport of all time.

2. Lamine Yamal (17 years, 2 days old)

Lamine Yamal is the name which has caught the eye of many people all over the world. He plays for Barcelona and the Spain national football team. Yamal broke down the record set by Pele and became the youngest player ever to win an international final when he lifted the UEFA Euro 2024 title with Spain.

Lamine Yamal was just 17 years and 2 days old when he achieved the feat. He scored a sensational match-winning goal against France in the semi-final of the European tournament.

1. Gilberto Mora (16 years, 265 days old)

Gilberto Mora was a part of the Mexico national football team, which clinched the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup title by beating the USA in the final. He surpassed Lamine Yamal and became the youngest player to ever play in an international final and to win it.

Mora started for Mexico and played for a total of 75 minutes before he was subbed off. The 16-year-old came up with top performances throughout the tournament. He plays for the Liga MX team Club Tijuana.
